What is Lord of the Rings LCG?

If you are interested in the world of Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit and like solitaire card games, then look no further for your favorite game!

Whether by chance or careful planning, Fantasy Flight Games made the wisest artistic choice not to follow the movie implementation of the saga, but to present new re-imagining of the original stories of Middle-earth. The basis of the game is the Middle Earth of literature written by Tolkien, and not in the movies. Although it has the same characters as the movies, it places them in the world where anything can happen. If you are a fan of art related to the original Tolkien vision, thousands of cards offer countless new visions of the world that you love.

After you have played through the core set, you can purchase many adventure packs that not only add new game mechanics, but allow the player to explore different locals of Middle Earth. Each of these packs include hero characters as well as villains and monsters unique to each locale. The FFG expansions are broken up into two types: the regular ones and the saga expansions. The saga expansions follow the story of the Hobbit and the three books of the Lord of the Rings, so the adventures included in these deluxe boxes follow the main events of the story

The key game concept is to create a deck of cards that will allow you to beat a pre-arranged enemy scenario deck which comes with each adventure pack. You choose which heroes will embark on the journey, and hope that luck is on your side. You will soon find that the same strategy will not work from adventure to adventure, and just as in the stories, the characters each have unique abilities that will at times allow them to shine above their peers. Make no mistake though, some adventures are truly difficult, and when you finally beat them you will feel a true sense of accomplishment.

The greatest thing of all is that unlike other games is that the Lord of the Rings LCG does not require an individual purchase endless booster packs to get the whole set. Deckbuilding is a huge part to these types of games, and usually one is limited to what they have been lucky enough to aquire, and isn’t able to build the deck they want. When you get specific deluxe and adventure packs, you will get two to three copies of every card. It is far cheaper to buy the whole set than with other games.

Instructions: As the eye is drawn towards Mordor take up your sword and strike it ten times. Do not let it escape once, or all will be lost!

Explore Middle Earth with FFG’s Deluxe Expansions and Adventure Packs

As mentioned, the regular adventure packs sold separately allow the player to explore whatever part of Middle Earth they want to. Fantasy Flight Games releases these in cycles, and in each of these releases there is a deluxe expansion which has three adventures, and then there are separate adventures sold as part of the cycle. Each cycle focuses on a specific area, and since these expansions don’t follow the books, the player does not have to purchase them in order, just have purchased the deluxe expansions, and then any adventures they want.

Below is a map with links to the Board Game Geek website where you can find and abundance of information about each adventure. The map includes all deluxe expansions, but sometimes not all of the adventure packs for each cycle as the area they take place in were too concentrated.
